This page documents the historical Rezence brand and A4WP specification. Rezence later became part of the AirFuel Alliance technology lineage.

Beyond the charging mat.

Rezence was built around “spatial freedom”: charging without exact coil alignment, supporting different device types and enabling transmitters to disappear into ordinary surfaces.

Loosely coupled resonators offered more horizontal and vertical tolerance than the tightly aligned inductive pads of that era.

A single Power Transmitter Unit could coordinate multiple receivers with different power needs on the same surface.

Built into real life.

The concept extended into desks, tables, vehicle consoles and public spaces — making the surface itself part of the charging system.

How the system worked

Power and control traveled on separate paths.

Energy moved through the resonant magnetic field, while Bluetooth Low Energy handled device discovery, control, power negotiation and protection.

The transmitter identified valid receiver devices through the out-of-band Bluetooth link.

From Rezence to AirFuel

A short, influential chapter.

The brand’s life was brief, but the core vision — alignment-free resonant power embedded into everyday environments — continued through the AirFuel ecosystem.

A4WP is formed

The Alliance for Wireless Power began developing a loosely coupled wireless power interoperability specification.

Rezence is introduced

A4WP launched the consumer-facing Rezence name, combining “resonance” and “essence.”

Expanded to 50 watts

The alliance announced support for higher-power devices including tablets, PCs and peripherals.

The AirFuel lineage

A4WP and PMA combined under the AirFuel Alliance; resonant wireless power continued as AirFuel Resonant.

Charging disappears into the environment.

The real proposition was not another accessory. It was an infrastructure layer: surfaces that quietly delivered power wherever devices naturally came to rest.

The idea continued

Rezence became history. Resonant power did not.

AirFuel Resonant now carries forward the central promise: alignment-free wireless charging for multiple devices on an enabled surface. Rezence remains an important milestone in how the industry learned to imagine wireless power.
