Fit
Many people found that the fit of the original Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless earbuds was a problem. People with smaller ears complained that the original Momentum True wireless shells were too large and the earbuds didn’t fit snugly in their ears.
Sennheiser has made the Momentum TW 2 more ergonomic and smaller in size. My ears are averagely large, so I was able to fit the original Momentum True Wireless earbuds into my ears easily. They did require some fiddling to get in the right fit. The new model is more comfortable overall, I must admit.
Design
It is not easy to create wireless earbuds that fit well. The Momentum True Wireless did not make the cut. The best way to increase the comfort and fit of these earbuds is to make them smaller. Sennheiser Momentum TW 2 has made them 2x smaller than their predecessors.
Although it may not seem like much, when you have to deal with tiny objects, it can make all the difference.
What is the result? The True Wireless 2 is indeed more comfortable, especially for longer listening sessions. The design of the Momentum True Wireless 2 is the same except for the difference in size.
Nothing has been changed on the waterproofing side. The IPX4 rating that the older model had was retained in the new model. We think this should be sufficient for most activities.
Active Noise Cancellation
The Momentum True Wireless 2 uses active noise cancellation technology, which is not the case with the original Momentum Tw model. To be honest, the original model was excellent at naturally isolating sound.
Our impressions of this newer model were that it didn’t significantly improve the natural sound isolation offered by the original model. This is why I don’t recommend you base your upgrade decision on it.
The new earbuds also include a transparent hearing mode that allows for the ingress of sound from outside. This feature is also available on the original model.
Functionality
The controls and functionality of the Momentum True wireless 2 earbuds are almost identical, but the Momentum True wireless 2 offers a major upgrade: the ability to turn the earbuds off manually. The problem with the original model was that they only turned off after you placed them in the charging case.
The earbuds wouldn’t turn off if there wasn’t enough charge in the case. You wouldn’t actually get the 12 hours of use advertised. It is possible that this was an issue with only a few pairs of headphones, but I suspect that it wasn’t.
Sennheiser has now made it possible to turn off your earphones manually via the app. Sennheiser also offers an “idle mode” that automatically turns off the earbuds when there is no activity for 60 minutes. The original model also has a 60-minute automatic shutoff. My personal pair was unable to drain until it was empty.
Battery Life
Momentum True Wireless earbuds were reviewed by us and we knew that the battery needed improvement. They were far behind true wireless competitors such as Jabra’s Elite 65t and Apple AirPods, with just four hours of playback per charge.
Sennheiser clearly understands the importance of good battery life. The Momentum True Wireless 2 has almost doubled the time it takes to charge your phone.
The new earbuds have seven hours of battery life, placing them ahead of the Apple AirPods Pro. They also come within striking distance of the Jabra Elite 75t buds which offer 7.5 hours of playtime.
It is still a long way from the true leaders in wireless battery life, such as Samsung’s Galaxy Buds+ at 11 hours or Master & Dynamic’s MW07 Plus at 10 hrs. Even so, the Momentum True Wireless 2 earbuds can deliver very long-lasting results between charges.
The charging case also gets a significant battery boost. It can now hold 21 hours or three full charges. This increases the non-recharge time from 12 hrs to 28 hrs.
Accompanying Apps
The Momentum True Wireless 2 is identical to the original model and comes with the Smart Control App.
You can adjust your headphone settings and it will also act as an equalizer. It also provides firmware updates that keep your earbuds updated. The app allows you to turn the earbuds on and off, as well as put them into idle mode.
Water Resistance
